Guest Speakers

Hiedi Scheer Heidi Scheer is former Mrs. Michigan, former Mrs. Ohio currently running for Mrs. United States. She is an international spokesperson for autism awareness and the biomedical approach to treating autism. She traveled with the Autism Grass Roots Tour, and co-wrote and directed a film about her son’s biomedical journey. Heidi also enjoys working alongside her husband, Doug, and together both have helped raise thousands of dollars for autism organizations in Michigan.
Patrick Elliot, DO Patrick Elliott, D. O. Along with dedicated service to our country, Dr. Elliot is an Osteopathic surgeon doing general and vascular surgery care. He is the father of twin boys on the spectrum and has been instrumental in their care. He has spent many hours of his own time mentoring parents and doctors about biomedical treatment of the autism spectrum. Dr. Elliott also runs a full time Hyperbaric oxygen therapy center in the Philadelphia area. He will discuss general biomedical overview of treatment of the autism spectrum disorders.
Derrick Lonsdale, MD Derrick Lonsdale, MD is a pediatrician and cofounder of Preventive Medicine Group. He is the one of the first doctors in the United States to use biomedical treatment for treating autism spectrum disorders. He has written several publications as well as a book titled "Why I Left Orthodox Medicine". He will give us a perspective of three decades of history and state of the art of treatment of autism.
Kristin Selby Gonzalez Kristin Selby Gonzalez is certified in the Body Ecology Diet, and is familiar with the Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and the gluten- and casein-free diet. She is certified in the Wilbarger Protocol® (a form of sensory integration), has knowledge in the Alert Program® (another form of sensory integration), The Handle Program® (another form of sensory integration), and is a provider in the Listening Program™ (an auditory integration therapy). She has a 9 year old son with autism and has been doing the Son-Rise® program with him now for over 5 years. In 2009, Kristin crisscrossed the country with The Autism Grass Roots Tour going to 26 States, doing 77 lectures and speaking to over 4000 people. She will give us a broad discussion of diets, enzymes , and safe natural therapies to help our kids and adults recover their brain function thru their gastrointestinal tracts.
Phillip C. DeMio, MD Phillip C. DeMio, MD is a father of a child with autism and was recently given a prestigious award for the top physician of 2011 by the autism community. He is the founder and Executive Director of the American Medical Autism Board, the first entity to certify MD’s and DO’s in biomedical treatment of the autism spectrum. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of the US Autism and Asperger Association, and he has also served on the Defeat Autism Now! think tank. His practice serves the medical needs of children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Dr. DeMio’s philosophy is that our children and loved ones are first and foremost in all of our treatments, and that health care providers and others who aim to medically help persons affected by autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities should be supported and encouraged by us all.
Kim Stagliano Kim Stagliano, mother of three girls on the Autism Spectrum (ASD's), mentor to countless parents, popular speaker on autism, and author of the fabulous book All I Can Handle, I'm No Mother Teresa: a Life Raising Three Daughters with Autism, will be the Keynote Speaker. Her famous hold-nothing-back style promises to make another big hit as she shares insights into the lives that so many of us and our loved ones lead. A book signing with Mrs. Stagliano will also be held at the Conference. Kim also runs The Age of Autism the nation's first web newspaper about the autism epidemic. She also writes for the Huffington Post, The Debutante Ball and The Autism File Magazine. More recently she has shared her daughter's story of abuse and injury on the school bus, and, as a result, has spearheaded national projects on what all of us can to do prevent and deal with such tragic ongoing's.
  Vincent Friedel, DC and his wife have devoted their lives to caring for his adult sister in law living with autism. He is a chiropractic physician with many years of treating patients with biomedical techniques. He is currently spearheading national projects within higher education to foster the train of practitioners and parents in alternative medical treatments.
James Neubrander, MD James Neubrander, MD received his M.D. degree from Loma Linda University in 1975. He completed his residency in pathology at the University of South Florida and is board certified in Environmental Medicine. Dr. Neubrander is the Medical Director of both the Comprehensive Neuroscience Center as well as his private practice that specializes in neurodevelopmental and autism spectrum disorders. In addition, he is the Medical Director of Autism Research for the International Brain Research Foundation. Dr. Neubrander serves on the scientific councils for the International Brain Research Foundation, the American Medical Autism Board, the U.S. Autism and Asperger Association, the Defeat Autism Now European Division, India's UDAAN for the Disabled and Autism Project, and the International Hyperbaric Association. He has presented at several Defeat Autism Now Think Tank since the mid '90s. Dr. Neubrander travels much of each year as a key speaker at national and international conferences and symposiums. His lectures are scientific, evidence-based, and often emphasize newer treatments or modifications of established protocols that appear to enhance clinical outcomes beyond the results classically reported. He is the coauthor of several peer-reviewed articles, has been interviewed and filmed for many documentaries as well as for multiple for TV spots, has been referenced in many books written about autism, nutrition, and environmental medicine, and is frequently quoted by scientists, researchers, clinicians, and lay persons, most notably for methylcobalamin, hyperbaric oxygen, heavy metal detoxification, and neurofeedback.
Raun Kaufmann Raun Kaufman was recently awarded as the best speaker of 2011 by the autism community. He has been working with The Son-Rise Program® for over 14 years. The Son-Rise® program was also recognized as the best therapy center of 2011 by the autism community. He is the CEO of The Option Institute and The Autism Treatment Center of America™. He is Certified Option Process® Group Facilitator, Mentor/ Counselor and Mentor Trainer. Raun has presented The Son-Rise Program® at conferences, symposia and universities in Europe and North America.
Joyce DeMio Joyce DeMio is the mother of a 11 year old child with autism. After 2 decades of work in the business world, this highly achieved executive and her family were met with her son's regressive autism. She rolled up her sleeves and got to work on all fronts including the daunting task of special diets to meet her beloved son's needs. Though she calls herself "just a mom" she has emerged as a national expert in the areas of diets for developmentally challenged and food intolerant individuals. she has made countless dietary inroads and advances include gluten free, casein free, yeast free, corn free, peanut free, egg free, and sugar free modifications. She has been a #1 speaker, and with her pragmatic "how-to" approach, she graces us again with her knowledge and experience.
Jarir Nakouzi, MD Jarir Nakouzi, MD is an international trained experienced physician. An expert in Oncology he specializes in an integrative approach in treating chronic degenerative conditions. Dr. Nakouzi has practiced Biological Medicine for over twenty years. He speaks multiple languages including the language of homeopathy. He will discuss the basics of homeopathic treatment and where they fit in with autism and new homeopathic treatment for the spectrum will be presented.
Jared Skowron, ND Jared Skowron, ND is a Naturopathic Physician specializing in pediatrics and treating autistic spectrum disorders in children. Author of Fundamentals in Naturopathic Pediatrics, the first science-based book on natural remedies for children, his practice focuses on detoxification and replenishing functional, nutritional deficiencies to restore health. Dr. Skowron is a full-time professor at the University of Bridgeport, College of Naturopathic Medicine, teaching Pediatrics, EENT, and diagnostics and is founder of the Pediatric & Autism Clinic at UB Health Sciences Center.
Mary Tocco Mary Tocco is an international speaker and educator empowering people to make informed vaccine decisions. She is the co-founder and currently on the board of the American Chiropractic Autism Board, (ACAB) and helping to manage Hope For Autism, (HFA) BioNutritional Training for Chiropractors, which focuses on recovery of autism and other chronic illnesses utilizing natural methods. Mary is the Director of Vaccine Research and Education for Michigan Opposing Mandatory Vaccines, a watch-dog group responsible for maintaining the philosophical exemption in Michigan. She will give a detailed presentation of the mechanism of infection of health and disease as it connects to vaccines and their issues of safety vs toxicity.
